Course Description
"Band English" is a special course in that the students will have 3-4 hours of English each week throughout the duration of the school year. There will be three different grade levels in this class and while many assignments and units will be the same, there will be different tasks, levels of questioning, and assessment strategies for each grade.
English 10 is known as the Foundation Year. This means that there will be a wide range of content designed to meet students' varying abilities and interests and the learning environment will be quite flexible. Students will be studying language, literature, and media texts with an emphasis on oral communication.
English Communications 11 is intended to prepare students for school success and lifelong learning by engaging them in learning experiences that are both interesting and practical. This course is designed to meet the interests and abilities of the students.
English 12 is an academic course with an emphasis on literary texts. This course is designed to encourage students to be critical, analytical, and reflective readers and viewers and to communicate confidently in a formal style.
Assessment
Students will be provided with a number of opportunities to demonstrate their understanding. Evaluation, both formative and summative, will take place in many forms. These include, though are not limited to:
Anecdotal records
Reflections
Small group and whole class discussions
Quizzes and tests
Conferences
Questioning
Presentations
Reading logs
